Northwest Re-Opens
The Northwest YMCA has re-opened and resumed regular hours as of Thursday, March 22. The following areas are currently open: cardio area, strive area, cycling classes, strive weight machines, and child watch. Group fitness classes will not be held at this time.
Northwest members continue to have access to other branches of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines for group fitness classes until the Northwest fitness room re-opens. Just present your membership card at the Welcome Desk at any of our other branches for access.

RE-OPENING NORTHWEST
We are tentatively scheduled to re-open Wednesday, March 21st and return to regular operating hours for most areas of the facility.
The following areas and programs are scheduled to re-open Wednesday: cycling classes, cardio area, stribe area, stribe weight machines, child watch.

Fire Damage Report
UPDATE: Our Northwest Y will close for at least three weeks while we repair fire damages. Thank you for your patience.
A fire occurred 2/29 at our Northwest YMCA – Grimes Program Center. The fire was limited to one room, but there is extensive smoke damage throughout the building.
We will keep you updated with any new developments.
Instructions for NW Members: Our Northwest Y members are invited to use any branch of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines association during the time the facility is closed. Just present your membership card at the Welcome Desk of any of our branches for access.
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we work to reopen the Northwest Y.

OVERCOMING OBSTACLES
Adaptive Yoga
Experience the benefits of yoga through a gentle practice. Extra attention will be given to joints and healing using chairs and other props for balance and support of bodies in the poses. For anyone whose limited strength or mobility has kept them from trying yoga. Poses are adapted to an individual's current condition, while honoring his/her strengths.
Wheelchairs, walkers, and personal helpers are welcome.
When: Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.

Healthy Holiday Recipe
Holiday Weighs is underway! We hope you’re getting lots of rest and are remaining stress-free this holiday season. This is a fun, flavorful recipe to add to your list of Christmas side-dishes. It is heart healthy and colorful to add bright cheer to your holiday table.Crunchy Pear and Celery Salad
Ingredients
(6 servings)
2 tablespoons cider, pear, raspberry or other fruit vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 ripe pears, preferably red Bartlett or Anjou, diced
1 cup finely diced white Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted (see Tip)
Freshly ground pepper, to taste
6 large leaves butterhead or other lettuce
2. Whisk vinegar, honey and salt in a large bowl until blended. Add pears; gently stir to coat. Add the celery, cheese and pecans; stir to combine. Season with pepper. Divide the lettuce leaves among 6 plates and top with a portion of salad. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
Per serving: 215 calories; 13 g fat ( 5 g sat , 4 g mono ); Calcium 15% DV, 20 mg cholesterol; 20 g carbohydrates; 5 g protein; 4 g fiber; 240 mg sodium; 219 mg potassium.
